Charlie Partridge mic'd-up at FAU spring football practice

Mar 17, 2014 -- 12:57pm

New FAU head football coach Charlie Partridge let ESPN 106.3 on WPTV NewsChannel 5 mic him up during a recent spring football practice. The former Pitt, Wisconsin, and Arkansas assistant is in his first year as the boss of the Owls and he recently put together the best recruiting class in school history this past signing period. Take a listen to what is sounds like during a Coach Partridge-run practice.

Threes a Company at RB for FAU

Home really is where the heart is when it comes to recruiting. For Coral Gables RB Greg Howell, he thought that getting away from home wouldn’t be that difficult but as the recruiting process moved on he realized he was mistaken.

“Being close to home was a big factor. At the beginning I didn’t really think it was but as time kept coming down, being home was just something that became attractive.”

Howell joins a FAU class that will welcome in two other running backs, but he is the only one coming in that stands over 6 feet tall and weighs over 200 pounds which he thinks is a big advantage.

“Most of the coaches tell me that I fit great into the system. Knowing that they lost  two running backs and that they are bringing in a good class of running backs, I can be into the rotation very soon due to the fact that I’m one of the tailbacks that is a bigger size guy. So knowing that, I know that I will probably see the field early.”

Howell had offers from Minnesota, Western Kentucky and Bucknell as well.

FAU Welcomes Raekwon Williams

Some in the college football world look at a trip to Bryant-Denny Stadium as one of the more intimidating things in college football.  Coach Partridge and FAU have got themselves a young man in Raekwon Williams that is already ready to make the trip to Alabama in 2014. Williams calls the opportunity to play the Crimson Tide and other big schools a “dream come true”

Like many other recruits who ended up in Boca due to past experience with Coach Partridge, Williams became an Owl due to Coach Roc Bellantoni. The Owls
Co-Defensive Coordinator was recruiting Williams back when he was with Villanova and then went back to Williams when he saw an opening in this year’s class.

Williams says he will play corner at FAU and has been told that he “can really come in and make a big impact.”

Williams had offers from FCS teams.

FAU Finds a Kicker

Feb 05, 2014 -- 7:54pm

By Brian Rowitz

If you bring up kicking with FAU football fans you might not get the most pleasant response. The Owls have struggled a lot in the kicking game over the last couple years but might have found their answer to replace departing Kicker Mitch Anderson.

Enter Landon Scheer, a Kicker ranked among the Top 50 in the Nation by ESPN.com and as #1 overall by Kornblue Kicking. Scheer becomes just the 3rd specialist to head to FAU on a scholarship, something he is very grateful for.

“It’s a huge blessing, I am very grateful for it and I feel like I can fill the shoes that come with it”

While Owl fans might already be envisioning Scheer putting foot to ball to kick off the 2014 season at Nebraska, the young man out of Orlando knows better than to get ahead of himself.

“I’m going to have to prove myself; it isn’t going to be handed to me. It’s not just “here you go” but I’m definitely going to work my butt off and I’m going to earn it for sure, I’m not just going to have the title”

When it comes to coming to Boca, Scheer might be just as excited as FAU fans are to welcome in a big time kicker.

“The program is on the rise and I feel like it is going to explode in the next few years. We have Coach Partridge, a big recruiter. I think it’s just a great situation all around and I can come in pretty early and compete right away for a starting job”

FAU Adds Some Size

Feb 05, 2014 -- 7:46pm

By Brian Rowitz

Every successful operation has a blueprint, if you ask Taravella Head Coach Dan Marguriet; FAU has got somebody to fit their blueprint in Taravella OL Siffo Pierre.

“He’s very athletic, runs very well and technique is terrific”

Coach Partridge 1st saw Pierre last spring when Partridge was at Arkansas and was one of the first collegiate coaches to look at him.

Pierre played his Senior year between 315 and 320 pounds along the Trojans offensive line. His Head Coach expects that weight to say pretty similar in college but just become more refined.

Pierre also had offers from Marshall and MTSU.
