VIDEO: Spanish River advances to States for first time in school history

Feb 26, 2012 -- 7:49pm

By: Wells Dusenbury

Stay the course. That's been the motto Spanish River head coach John Jones has been preaching to his players throughout the entire season. Whether it was through the ups of their nine game winning streak to start the year or to the downs of falling on their home court in the District Championship. Jones has kept his team level-headed throughout the year, and after a win over Deerfield Beach in the 8A Regional Final, the Sharks are steering right toward Lakeland.

In a thrilling, fast paced game, Spanish River knocked off Deerfield Beach 67-61 to advance to the State Semifinals for the first time in school history. Spanish River's big four of Reggie Love, Evan Kupferberg, Dante Scholl and Coltin Gelb carried the Sharks again on Saturday, and more impressively, never left the floor for a single minute. The Sharks will take on Hialeah Gardens in Lakeland on Friday night.
